  • why should I take a part-time job

    • Simply, to earn money (e.g. £6.00 per hour x 20 hrs = £120 per week; £120 times 4 weeks = £480 per month, in which case you can cover your £250 rent and food expense £200)

    • To practice your English with local people (topics with Uni students are very limited. You may find it comfortable in communicating at Uni when you first come here. Not only are most of them international, also most of them are well educated with good manner, unlike local ignorant and arrogant English. However, you are highly recommended to go outside Uni)

    • Depending on the nature of your job, some of them are very valuable in helping you find proper jobs in future after graduation

  • How do I find a job in S’ampton

    • Jobcentre Plus – you will find it on Google. If you want to find a job like sale assistant in Primark, Customer Service Assistant in John Lewis, Stock room assistant in Mark & Spencer, Cleaner in Southampton Airport etc, this is a good website to go

    • University Temp Bank – if you want to work as a cleaner or similar roles, you may go to Temp Bank (advantages – higher hour rate & no tax)

    • Chinese Super Store, Yao Brother – if you want to work as a delivery driver, counter in Chinese Take-away, you will find ads there

    • Recruitment Agencies – If you want to find an office job such as office assistant in HSBC, customer service officer at Nat west etc, you can register with agencies (Hays, Reed, Kelly Services, Brook Street, Blue Arrow, you can find all of them in town centre). It is free. They will forward your CV to the employer.

    • Daily Echo newspaper – There is a recruitment section on every Thursday & Saturday’s publish (you can also check their website, but I recommend newspaper, one for £0.5.)

    • Online recruiters – the most useful one, I feel, is M##被过滤##ter. If you post your CV there, someone may contact you

It is my experience in finding a job. Hope it helps. Again, it only applies to non quantitative business/management subject.
