On Sunday April 23(Sunday), the city will be hosting a unique event – it will be welcoming five cruise ships into port - The Queen Elizabeth 2 (until 11.30am only), Queen Mary 2, The Oceana, The Sage Rose and Saga Ruby. This is the first time that so many cruise liners of this kind have been seen in the port and this spectacular sight is not to be missed.
To mark this special occasion there are free bus tours leaving from Mayflower Park from 10am, for approximately an hour, with the last tour at 5pm. Blue Funnel Ferries will also be offering water tours of the port throughout the day. In addition the council will be hosting its free walking tour ‘pirates, perils and plots’ at 11:15am, 12:15midday, 2:15pm and 3:15pm, also leaving from Mayflower Park.
Additionally on April 29, the city will welcome the largest cruise ship in the world – the Freedom of the Seas to the City Cruise Terminal at 9am. At 10.30pm spectators can enjoy fireworks before she sets sail for a one night cruise.
This is the only time the Freedom of the Seas will be in the UK, and Southampton is proud to host this special event in the city.
To mark this special occasion, Solent Blue Line, supported by Associated British Ports and Southampton City Council, will be launching fully commentated bus tours of the port. These will run throughout the summer every weekend from April 29-September 1 and daily from May 30 to June 2 and July 24-September 1.
