昨天bencraft开了个小会,会上提到了flower estate,指的就是从Bassett Green Rd 到Burgess Rd之间这一段18条以花命名的road。
“Frank Bealing owned a large horticulture business in Burgess Road, Basset, Southampton. His many large nurseries and greenhouses grew a wide variety of plants and flowers that were used in displays on board the liners that docked at Southampton. Bealing shot and processed his own photographs. A keen amateur photographer, he used the Dufay colour process to record many of the nursery's prize-winning blooms. Most of his images were taken between 1928 and 1940. From the 1930s onwards, slums were demolished elsewhere in the town and the area around the site wa developed to provide new housing. The estate is known today as the 'flower estate'.”

大家谈到的缺乏教养的小孩一事原来还是有一些出处和历史可寻的
Not far from London is Southampton, an international port to ships coming in from all over the world. We “docked” there for a week after visiting London and Eastbourne, where my grandparents and other relatives live. While in Southampton we joined up with a ministry that serves a poor community just outside of the city. Called the “Flower Estate,” it was labeled the most poverty-stricken place in the area. It’s normal there for a family of 6 to live in a 2-bedroom apartment. The “Flower Estate” fit with our ministry time there very well, being that we are called The Sonflowerz!

不能说子女的教养和家庭的经济之间有必然的联系,但是它们之间总是有些联系。
