DURATION: 42 weeks, beginning September 11th 2012 and completing July 31st 2013
TRAINING: September 11th and 12th 2012
Please note that all applicants must be available for both training days in September.
Main duties and responsibilities:
To contribute to improving community cohesion within a designated residential area, including taking part in proactive patrols to identify potential community problems and escalating them accordingly.
To attend initial and follow-up training, bi-weekly team meetings, progress meetings and other meetings as relevant to the post.
To work alongside the University’s Pastoral Care Team – providing initial contact with some students living off campus.
To establish and maintain regular contact with residents in a designated area, including welcoming students to specific streets within the city and maintaining contact with resident groups.
To co-ordinate community projects at least once a semester
To provide information to residents about local issues, facilities and services and refer students to relevant sources of support.
To take part in relevant information fairs and road-shows promoting community issues.
To provide information to student residents on rights and responsibilities of living as tenants in the community.
To perform letter or leaflet drops
To gather and disseminate information to promote awareness of specific issues.
To record anonymous statistical information on activities undertaken.
To recognise own limitations and work within them, seeking further support and guidance as necessary.
Notes
Wardens must be students who have lived off-campus in private accommodation for at least one year.
Wardens must live in one of the following ward areas in 2012/13: St James, Polsloe, Newtown, Pennsylvania or St Davids.
Wardens will be required to work in small teams as part of a designated community area – there will be occasions when wardens work as a full team in other areas of the city.
Wardens are employed for an average of 5 hours each week. Working hours are flexible and can be planned with support from the Community Liaison Officer.
Wardens report directly to the Community Liaison Officer but will liaise with PCSO's (Police Community Support Officers) and City Council Refuse/Recycling staff directly
Wardens cannot be 'called out' and do not have a disciplinary function.
