- UK Driving Licence (If you want to keep Chinese Driving Licence during the 1st year in the UK and swop it to UK Driving Licence thereafter, I strongly recommend you at least learn UK Highway Code or study for Theory Test)
- Motor Insurance – you need to ensure that you have insured the car you own & drive. Otherwise it is against the law. You may compare the quotes on Google as they vary significantly.
- MOT – An annual certificate to dem##被过滤##trate the basic safety & security condition of the car
- Road Tax – a label certificate where you can get from local post office. In order to obtain this, you must present Insurance Certificate and MOT certificate at PO counter.
- Where to buy – www.autotrader.co.uk a good place to compare loads of cars. I bought my car from this site.
- Recommendati##被过滤## – To be economic, I would suggest small cars with engine size 1.0 – 1.6L petrol 3/5 door hatchback. Three reas##被过滤## i.e. small cars are of lower band of insurance premium; small cars cost less petrol; small cars have lower road tax to pay.
- Give you a real life example here.
Male student, 25, holding UK driving licence for 1 year, parking cars at driveway (home)
Nissan Micra 1.0L petrol 3 door hatchback
Monthly insurance premium £45, half-year road tax £60, weekly petrol costs £15
To sum up, it only costs £115+ per month.
However, if you have a car e.g. Peugeot 306 2.0L petrol 5d hatchback
Monthly insurance premium could be as high as £100 depending on other factors. Half-year road tax is £90, weekly petrol costs around £40. Therefore you are looking at £285+ per month.
Therefore, think twice what car to buy!
