Suggesti##被过滤## on packing:
1. Be alert to the maximum luggage weight for students. Do NOT expect to move your home to Britain.
2. Pack the things that a student needs (stationery, necessities for daily use, dictionary or software of the like, etc.)
3. It is NOT necessary to buy everything new. Keep in mind that you have to throw many things away in a year.
4. As pounds are very valuable and difficult to get, try to bring enough daily necessities if there is enough space.

Packing list:
-----Daily necessities:
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO BRING toothpaste, washing powder, shampoo, soaps, sanitary towel, tissues, and foreign-made cosmetics as the price in UK is almost he same as in China.
IT IS BETTER TO BRING quilt cover, sheets, chopsticks, micro-wave oven boxes, electric cooker, kitchen knife, small knife, needle & thread, scissors, Chinese medicine which you normally use, camera, films, batteries, radio, walkman, earphone, water-proof handbag, alarm clock, hair-dryer, transformer.
-----Clothes:
Clothes in Britain are very expensive, so bring enough clothes. The weather in autumn, winter is nasty: dark, wet and windy outdoors, but warm indoors because of the central heating.
Water-proof jacket with hat is the most important thing; a very strong umbrella due to the windy wet weather; coat or leather jacket (one is enough); sweaters; enough socks; hat; scarf; gloves; pajamas; at least two pairs of comfortable shoes (preferably water-proof); slippers (one pair for warm days and one pair for cold days). Summer clothes can be few, but at least two T-shirts.
-----Food: wei jing, soup material or some dried food (such as mushroom).
----Sports lovers should take their badminton racket, swimming suits and sportswear.
-----Music lovers can bring CDs and listen to them on university computers.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO BRING mobile phone from China since some companies or even banks will provide free mobile phone to you, but charge connection fee.
IT IS NOT COMPULSORY TO take a laptop.

Tips for staying in Leeds
-----Accommodation:
Rent is the largest expenditure, so finding a room with low rent can save a lot of money.
The ideal location is close to the campus, within walking distance so that you can make full use of the university sports, library, and computer facilities and it is safe to return home late.
-----House-hunting:
1. Look around in the area close to the university and seek big sign “TO LET” and contact the owner by phone for more details and make appointments for a visit.
2. Visit Students UNIPOL or other agency.
3. University accommodation is clean, safe, and well-equipped, but the rent is more expensive than private houses. Besides, it is difficult to break the contract once you sign it for forty weeks.
4. Look at the ads on notice boards in the Parkinson Court, or Students’ Union.
5. Ask friends or acquaintance for information.
6. Living with Chinese landlords\ladies is cheaper, but no environment to speak English.
7. Living with British students or other international students will have some conflicts due to cultural difference, but give you the real flavour of studying abroad.
8. Living with students in the same group will make you feel safe, and less homesick and lonely. You can help each other and share all kinds of information, but the drawback is you can’t help speaking Chinese, and you are still in a Chinese community.

Study:
1. It will take some time to get used to the British education system. Take advantages of the study skills lectures and workshops provided by Teaching and Learning Support Unit. Refer to the website: www.leeds.ac.uk\studio for all kinds of study skills.
2. Make full use of your tutor’s office hours.
3. Talk to the librarian for books in your course.
4. Find a study partner among your classmates.
5. Take part in free language courses in the language center.
6. Plan your work and work your plan.
7. Read the books written by your course tutors.
8. Internet can always give you all kinds of information.
9. DO NOT forget the Leeds City library for g
