The University of Manchester
The University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (Umist) merged in October 2004. £300m was poured into creating what is now the largest conventional HE institution in the UK, and the university is certainly stronger in terms of academic resources and student facilities. Plans are in motion to make it one of the top 25 universities in the world by 2015.Manchester is a thriving university at the heart of one of the most exciting cities in the UK.
Fees
£3,000 a year for all full-time undergraduate courses.
Bursaries
£1,000 a year for students from households with income of less than about £22,000. £5,000 a year to students with three A grades at A-level (or equivalent), from families earning less than £15,200. Further subject-specific grants of £1,000 a year to those with three A grades. £2,000 a year to eligible local students who have participated in widening access initiatives. £10,000 a year to the 10 most outstanding UK students. Music and sports scholarships are also on offer.
Accommodation
Guaranteed for unaccompanied firstyear undergraduates who accept a firm offer and apply by the deadline. Prices vary widely, but typically from £60- £80 a week for self-catering, and around £80-£90 a week for catered.
