Institute ofComputing Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences havedesignedLoongson 2 CPUs, the second series of the Loongson family. Themostrecent Loongson 2E and Loongson 2F CPUs are manufactured bySTMicroelectronics who adopt their advanced 90nm process technology.
Thelatest and enhanced member of the Loongson family is the Loongson2Fprocessor which has achieved a high performance. The advancementthatLoongson 2F has made is the integration of the Loongson 2E CPU withtheNorth Bridge chip. This results in less space needed from themotherboard of its computer and the power c##被过滤##umption is c##被过滤##iderablylower,which is energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

CPU Features:
Loongson2F achieved 4W thermal design power at 1GHz clock speed. Withsuch alow power c##被过滤##umption, a lot of electricity can be saved whenthey areused in electronic products that have to be on for a longperiod oftime, for example a super computer or a web server.
Loongson CPUsare extremely secure; the security aspects wereincorporated into thehardware design. No viruses are compatible withthese chips yet. Afirewall product based on Loongson 2E DawningTLFW-100L was developednot long ago which is c##被过滤##idered to be moresecure than other similarfirewall systems based on other processors.

They released Loongson 2E Fuloong 2E mini box(http://www.lemote.com/english/fuloong.html) in early 2007 as well as 12 inches Loongson 2E Mengloong notebook (http://www.lemote.com/english/mengloong.html).
Loongson2F are the most advanced CPUs of the Loongson Series that areused inpersonal computers. The new Fuloong Box Fuloong 2F was releasedon 29thof June 2008. The box is fairly small and weighs only 0.85kg.Itoperates extremely quietly and the power c##被过滤##umption is less than17Watts. This is brilliant because normally other type of a CPUalonec##被过滤##umes dozens of Watts of power.
The French version of the Loongson inside Laptops are called Gdium (http://www.gdium.com).
Loongson 2F CPU supports various versi##被过滤## of Linux such as Debian, Everest etc.

The future:
Loongson3 (65nm process) which is going to be released at the end of2008 willbe able to run both windows and Linux Operating Systems, thischip i##被过滤##pected to have 4 cores. It will be initially deployed to superserverDawning 5000.

Loongson 2H (65nm process) which is the finalversion of the Loongson 2series is going to be released in 2009.Loongson 2H will be a CPU, GPU,North Bridge and South Bridgeintegrated chip which will further reducethe cost and the energyc##被过滤##umption of Loongson 2H computer. The speedand the performance ofthis chip will also be improved quitesignificantly.
