Accommodation      

  We do our best to find you the accommodation which most closely matches your requirements, and our staff are there throughout the year to help, should you have any difficulties. If you apply through Clearing we still make you a high priority for University accommodation and do our best to offer you a place, as long as you apply for accommodation and accept your course place before 31 August.

On the Hatfield College Lane Campus are five traditional purpose-built halls with facilities for self-catering. The kitchens are equipped with fridges, freezers, microwaves, cookers and food lockers. The halls have single study bedrooms and shared bathrooms/showers/toilet facilities. There is also a development of houses and a hall c##被过滤##isting of self-contained flats for 6-8 students with similiar facilities to the traditional halls. There are a number of double rooms at the campus.

The new Hatfield de Havilland Campus has ten halls made up of self-contained flats accommodating an average of eleven students in comfortable single study bedrooms with ensuite facilities, and all with network points. The shared kitchens/common rooms are well-equipped with up-to-date appliances.

If you prefer, you may choose to live in lodgings with a local family. You may have use of the kitchen or meals may be provided. We hold lists of lodgings in each campus area.

We can also advise you about a number of private rented properties available in the campus areas. These are not owned or managed by the University. Assistance in finding lodgings or private rented accommodation is available to all.

International students who apply for accommodation and accept their academic place before 31 August are guaranteed a place in accommodation owned or managed by the University and within easy distance of campus during their first year of study.

Students from European Union countries in their first year of study at the University and who are studying for the entire academic year receive equal priority with UK students.
This does not include students participating in exchange programmes.

A limited amount of accommodation is available on a ‘first come first served’ basis for students participating in full year exchange programmes.

The following figures give you an idea of the approximate housing costs for the academic year 2001/2002. You should expect costs for the academic year 2003 to increase approximately in line with inflation. The full range of accommodation is available to you, regardless of which campus your studies are based on.

Lodgings
Seven days full board
Approx £70.00 per week

Seven days self-catering
Approx £50.00 per week
(charges to be agreed with landlords/ landladies)

Shared Houses
A place in a shared house costs £50.00-£60.00 per week plus bills

University accommodation must be paid for termly in advance, although you can arrange payment by monthly instalments if you receive monthly maintenance money. It is also possible to pay by VISA. You will also have to pay a returnable deposit of £200.

University rents are payable for the full academic year, ie inclusive of the Christmas and Easter vacati##被过滤##.

If you live off-campus, Universitybus provides easy and economic travel between the campuses, local towns and railway stati##被过滤##, across Hertfordshire and into North London.
