英国留学, 请别再一味的相信Times 大学排名, 看看英国人自己的研究评估考核(RAE)吧

相信大部分选择去英国留学的人都和我一样, 在择校的时候主要依靠的就是Times 排名. 可以完全肯定的说, Times 排名的确很有权威性, 并且也算是最综合的一个排名. 毕竟财力, 设备以及师资等条件是一所大学持续发展的根本.
不过, 既然是"留学", 那必然以"学"为重. Times 的排名虽然权威但并不完全. 所以, RAE ranking作为由英国教育机构对各个大学进行的学术研究评估后所得到的排名会是一个不错的择校衡量标准.

RAE - the Research Assessment Exercise


以下引自百度百科:

研究评估考核（the Research Assessment Exercise, 简称RAE），是英国高等教育基金委员会对英国高等教育机构的研究质量进行的一次系统全面的测评，大约每五年进行一次。前几次的RAE排名分别发布于1986、**、1992、199##被过滤##2001年。随着各大学研究水平的不断提高，学术竞争的愈发激烈，最新一期的排名时隔七年才公诸于世，可见其调查的细致与严谨。

RAE2008建立在对159所大学52400名职员于2001-2007年间发表的20万件学术成果的评估之上，每个具体专业及科目的RAE测评结果，都是由1100专业领域的专家分成67个评审小组进行审核。其评估结果将直接影响从现在一直到2013年，英国高等教育基金机构每年总计15亿英镑的学术经费的流向，各校各专业的排名以及未来的招生情况。

Guardian University League Table:



Guardian University Ranking相对而言没有RAE和Times那么权威, 但是正如下文所介绍的那样, 它更倾向于以学生的角度去评估各所大学, 比如: 满意度, 就业率等. 所以可以适当作为参考.

"Our tables are unlike other newspapers in that a university's ranking is heavily weighted to how satisfied its final-year students say they are. Students across the country are asked to rate how happy they are with 22 measures, including one on their overall satisfaction with their course as part of the National Student Survey. Other tables rate universities according to how good their research is.
The tables were compiled by independent consultancy firm Intelligent Metrix. It's based originally on information collected byHigher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and theNational Student Survey, published byHigher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce).
Apart from students' satisfaction scores, they ranked the universities according to how much institutions spend per student; their student/staff ratio; the career prospects of their graduates six months after graduation; a value-added score and what grades pupils have to achieve to stand a chance of being offered a place.
In addition to the overall rankings, you can look up a particular subject and see which universities fare best and worst. You can even compile your own tables by sorting which course might be most suitable for you. Or why not make your own table based on the courses you are interested in, but rated according to the percentage of graduates in graduate-level jobs six months after graduation.
For those who want averages to compare all universities to, the following may be helpful:

? On average 63% of students went on to a graduate job or full-time study six months after graduation
? On average overall satisfaction score was 82.2%.

"最早的英国大学排名是由《泰晤士报》(The Times)在1992年发布的。随后多家报纸也分别发布了自己的英国大学排名。到目前为止，下列报纸发布过各类英国大学排名：《泰晤士报》(The Times)、《金融时报》(The Finacial)、《每日电讯报》(The Daily Telegraph)、《卫报》(Guardian)。其中，《泰晤士报》的英国大学排名由于其悠久的历史和完备的数据被大多数中国留学生所接受。从1992年至今，英国大学排名不断更新、完善，各类指标层出不穷，至今，有110所大学分别被列入各类排名。在这里需要知道的是，有些大学如Open University，Buckingham University一类远程高等教育大学，以及私立大学是不被列入排名的。
英国大学排名分为大学综合排名和大学专业排名，英国大学综合排名是评价某个学校的综合实力，从学校的教学质量、毕业生比例、研究水平、图书馆藏量、体育设施、就业率等无所不及。英国大学专业排名则是某学校该专业在英国各个大学之间的实力评估。MBA专业由于它的特殊性，不被列入专业排名，而被各大报纸单独进行研究，所使用的评估标准也和普通的专业排名不同。"

总而言之, 每一种排名都有其独特的倾向性. 既然决定要出国学习. 那么, 请本着对自己负责的态度, 尽量多参考一下相关资料, 对自身做出一个合理的定位. 特别需要注意的是, 选择学校不仅仅依靠这些排名, 还必须要了解其所在的地理位置, 生活环境以及交通和住宿情况, 这些是绝对重要的衡量条件. 不要完全相信中介给你的评定, 更不要轻易接受他们的推荐. 多参考, 多比较, 选择一所最适合最中意的学校将会为你的留学生活奠定一个非常好的基础.
