I'd like to provide a few pieces of information:
1.It is much more expensive to live in the university halls, while the benefit is that you won't worry about the bills, the facilities and etc. If you decide to live in the private houses, you can go to the accommodation office of the university to make some enquiries. They have a list of private houses for you to choose. You can also search street by street for "to let" information. You can also find some renting information in this forum. Anyway, don't think so further now. You can figure it out during your language course. After arriving at Southampton, you will find everything is in your doorstep. You can ask questi##被过滤## in this forum then.
2.The University has its own welcome programme, which is normally lauched in late September or early October (since most of the students will come at that time). During the programme, the University will run coaches between Heathrow Airport and the university-affiliated student halls for several days. I am not sure whether there is a pick-up programme for students attending language courses. You have to check your welcome pack for detailed information. If you are able to and decide to use this free service, I think you have to let the university know this in advance(probably by posting the service-booking card in your welcome pack to the university or by email).
3.I heard that the language courses were not very difficult, if not easy. So no need to worry about it.
