对以上五点的思考要在PS中清楚的表现出来。使学校感到你和他们之间有一个perfect match。
你就是他们想找的人。
写作/沟通能力
录取委员会认为是否能够准确而富于技巧的表达自己的思想对今后的学术生涯和职业生涯的成功具有决定性意义，所有在PS里所表现出来的写作能力尤为重要。但是请注意，录取委员会评价写作/沟通能力的标准是”准确”而富于”技巧”的表达自己的”思想”。夸夸其谈并非写作/沟通能力的体现。实际上”talk beautifully about nothing”的申请人会被立即扫地出门。
文章是否有清晰的整体结构，段落之间的衔接是否流畅，段内的层次是否分明，文章的中心思想和主题句的力度比语言本身更为重要。

真实的自我

Defining Moments
回首20多年走过的道路，是否还记得过去的每一分钟发生的事情呢?还是只留下一些回忆的片断(defining moments)。把这些defining moments用统一的theme组织起来，立体的向录取委员会展示自我。

A Touch Upon Your Life
由于数据和事实在Resume里有全面的展示，Personal Statement的核心是结合具体的个人经历向录取委员会展示你的想法和情感(thoughts and emoti##被过滤##)。注意PERSONAL这个词。如果说个人简历是你的portrait，PS则是在揭示你的内心世界。
要正确的理解personal。并非要通过epiphany, tragedy, life change, or earth-shattering event才能够使PS强有力的影响录取委员会。编造一个贫穷的家庭背景和惨绝人寰的个人经历往往由于缺乏真实感而导致PS迅速进入垃圾桶。传统的西方理念认为中产阶级，特别是其中的中上层是推动社会进步的主导力量。

当强烈的表现欲驱使你准备在PS里面列举一系列的数字和奖项名称的时候，记住数字和奖项并不是defining moments。譬如：我从入校全年级第25名很快攀升到第二学年的全年级第10名，第三学年第1名。数字不能作为结论，而是用来支持一个结论的。这里的结论(给录取委员会的印象)是你在一个进取心很强的申请人。在北大清华申请人的申请文书常常看到：”我在199x年获得了全省第一名考入的北京/清华大学，毕业时排名1/78”.
