I am going to do Ship Science.
As I know from the tutor in our uni, for us International stu we have 2 ways of doing it:
1. Get a letter from your school saying they keep you a member of students;
2. Get a working permit fro Home Office. Don't know any more about so called Home Office.
Among these two, the first seems to be easier.
But, Do you mean that we may go on our degree while work as part-time in a company? That's more exciting!!!

I am going to the university to ask for more infromation today
yuwei:
are you doing foundation?
i know both of these methods.
the first one will enable you to get a student visa, which you can only work part-time.
the second one is virtually impossible. i tried before. you phone the home office they simply don't cooperate with you.
i applied this scheme while i was a final year student at high school in England. I am a memeber of the Engineering Education Scheme which would help me to get a placement easier, yet i gave up the application. the main reason was that i didn't want to work part-time.
i came here in southampton doing a degree instead, which i thought was better. i am not going back to china this summer and so i asked my tutor whether i could work in a company during summer or not. he said he was going to ask for me. you see, this is possible even for a first year student like me.
even though i am not guaranteed to have a job this year summer, but i will definitely have a job during second year summer(school is helping us).
i don't know much about your school. i hope your school is doing the same thing.
anyway, i think it's much better to get some knowledge first before working in a company.
eg. if you have done two years of study, and you take a year out working in a company through the year in industry scheme. then you can apply your knowledge you have learnt into practise, and this will increase your chance to get a job in a company after your graduation. and possibly you are able to get a sp##被过滤##orship.
my strategy is to work during every summer in a technology company. while other time,i study hard on my course. and i don't not c##被过滤##ider to take a gap year . in fact, after your graduation, you can not only apply a proper job which you can earn 20,000 pounds or more per year ,but also can apply a job through year in industry scheme which is about 12,000 pounds per year.
so you are more flexible when you have finished your degree. company can get you work permit and you don't need to worry about that. |
