Degree(s): MAcc: 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time The MAcc degree aims to develop an awareness and understanding of issues facing organisati##被过滤## which operate internationally, focusing primarily on accounting and finance related issues. A distinctive and attractive feature of the degree is its international dimension which recognises the increasing importance of the rapidly developing international nature of business activity. Therefore courses emphasise an international perspective throughout the degree. For example, the financial accounting courses are based on the International Accounting Standards Board's standards. Since the course is based on a structure of core and option courses, students are given flexibility to pursue studies in a chosen area of interest. However all graduating MAcc students should be able t - Understand and analyse financial statements of international business from around the world according to accepted international practice
- Explain the environmental factors which influence multinational companies and analyse the way in which businesses respond to them
- Use and critically appraise a range of management accounting issues relevant to multinational businesses
- Explain and analyse the functioning of the treasury function of multinational corporati##被过滤## and identify relevant current issues affecting its operati##被过滤##
- Use and apply accounting and financial information for financial decision-making
- Carry out an independent piece of research.
The course also aims to equip students with the appropriate key skills for working in the international environment, including written and oral presentation skills, working in groups and IT skills. The MAcc offers participants advanced preparation for career development in accounting and finance. It also provides an excellent foundation from which to pursue research at the Doctoral level. Core courses cover areas including international financial accounting, international corporate finance, international business, management accounting, statistics and research methodology. Assessment
All taught postgraduate courses are assessed on the basis of a combination of coursework, examination performance and the final dissertation or project. In each course students are assessed by a combination of assessed coursework and a final examination, taken in May/June. The assessed coursework for each course is normally an essay, group project or equivalent of about 2,500-3,500 words. The final project or dissertation will c##被过滤##ist of one work of approximately 15,000 words, devoted to a subject chosen in accordance with the particular talents and interests of each student, bearing in mind the specific interests and supervisory capability of staff. Preparation for the project/dissertation begins in February/March and must be completed by mid-September. All taught postgraduate courses also aim to equip students with the appropriate key skills for working in the international environment, including written and oral presentation skills, working in groups and IT skills. |
