标题: Global Warming

People in the world are being threatened by the fast coming global warming. one of the phenomena which causes by global warming is the icebergs in Antarctica are melting at a much faster pace. some scientists say if the ice melts, the sea level goes up which will cover our lands. while some other scientists say, some part of the ice is under water,so when the ice become water which will then compensate the volume that the ice under water,so the sea level is not going to go up.

can anybody here use maths and physics to work this problem out? will the sea level go up or stay unchanged?

no,it's ice!

easy to model, only need knowledge from middle school.

but need some experimental data.

this is a simple maths question.

should be rise,

the left part of iceberg , which was above the water , would drop into the sea,

am i right ?

作者: bsu    时间: 2005-9-22 06:28

yes,you are right.

very clever!

but can you use maths to prove it?

作者: mlulu    时间: 2005-9-22 11:30

what s that mean ?

作者: bsu    时间: 2005-9-23 06:11
you use maths to work it out.

tdy,can you work out whether the water level is going to rise or decrease or stay the same if i drop a huge stone into a small lake from my boat?
