Why should you take the UELA?
The University English Language Assessment allows us to see a clear picture of the levels of
new non-native speaker students entering the University. With all students taking the same
assessment (although there are different versions), at approximately the same time, this gives
us a clear comparison of student levels. This also helps us to give you accurate advice about
whether we think you will benefit from In-Sessional English language classes or not.
By doing the UELA at the start of the Semester, we can advise you right at the beginning of
the academic year to join classes. In many Universities, students only discover that they need
language help in December or January during the assessment period. By then, it is too late.
Thus, the UELA allows us to support you fully in your academic studies.
There is no need to worry about the assessment. It is solely designed to support your studies
and does not make any difference to your entry onto your academic programme.
