You can also visit www.prepareforsuccess.org.uk11 for information about preparing for life in the UK – this interactive toolkit is designed to help you learn all about the UK, British culture and what to expect when you get here.
Pre-arrival information: Arriving in the UK We know that arriving in a new country can be exciting but also a bit scary, so we offer a free airport pickup service1.
We also arrange a number of welcome events2 to help familiarise you with your new surroundings and make new friends. These take place several days before your classes start, so you can adjust to your new environment, catch up on any lost sleep and sort out any personal matters. Download last year's International Welcome and Orientation guide3 (PDF) to give you an idea of the events we will run in September 2011.
At the airportYou will have to go through both Passport Control4 (Immigration) and a Customs check5 when you land in the UK. You may also need to register with the Police6 after you have arrived in the UK.
If you need some help. . . . . . look out for 'the green people'. Wherever you are, our team of staff and student helpers will be on hand to help and guide you. When you arrive at the airport, get to the International Welcome Centre or participate in any of our events, look for our 'green team'. We’ll be wearing bright green t-shirts and will be happy to assist with anything.
AccommodationPlease note that you cannot move into our halls of residence until a specified date in September (to be confirmed). If you're arriving before then you'll need to arrange other accommodation. Please contact Accommodation Services7 for advice.
